leg injury about an inch below the stifle

I was hoping that someone could help me with this problem.  I have a 4 year old that is boarded at the barn where she was born, who is very green and was living outside in the pasture with about 5 other horses her own age.  One day she was rolling and got her leg caught in the fence gate.  She tore her right hind leg pretty bad and the worst part of her leg was a big, deep cut right below her stifle.  The joint was not effected at all and surprisingly she is not lame.  This happened two weeks ago and this is what has been done so far.

The vet came the day it happen and because she has only been back and forth to the barn for a month, she was not really use to the barn.  The Vet. tranq. her four times in order to suture her leg back up.  Once I was notified that the vet was there and what had happened, I went to the barn.  Once there the Vet told me that she chiped the bone but the vet did not remove it because it was adhered to the muscle and the surgeon told her to place it back into the leg.  She was put on SMZ for 14 days to get the infection under control.  The vet did not put any wrap on the leg or on the stifle area to cover the wound because the horse would not stand still.  When the vet came back out three days later to check on her, the vet could not get near her and from a distance he did not like the way the wound below her stifle looked.  Since then, the sutures pulled out and the wound is now about 2 inches wide and about 4 inches long (around the leg with the worse on the inside).  I have been washing the wound out with diluted betadine scrub and water.  A friend of mine came up with something to help cover the wound.  This was a wrap that you actually had on all four legs with gauze criss crossing over the back to hold up each bandage.  The problem is that the bandage is not holding because the gauze is breaking when she lays down or the material that is being used (which is the same material that is put between the skin and a cast on a human) is stretching enough that the horse actually plays with the bandage to get off of one of the front legs which ends up losening up the bandage on the wounded leg.  I have tried putting the bandage on with just using the two hind legs and one front leg but she is still managing to get this off as well.  I know the ideal thing would be to put on Robert Jones bandage on and I am a certified Vet. tech but I have not put a robert jones on for about 10 years.  SO, my question to anyone is does any one have any ideas on what I can try to do for this wound?  Should I just leave any bandage off and continue to clean the wound every day?  She is in a stall and is not allowed to go out at all as per the Vets orders.  Any advice I would really appreciate it.
